What is ArcheAge?
Your character can use several systems. Start with quests, then choose an activity that interests you.
ArcheAge is an online role-playing game in a shared fantasy world. You control a character, complete quests, and learn combat skills. Other players share the same regions, resources, and routes.
Combat is one part of the game. Players also grow crops, gather materials, make equipment, and carry goods between regions. These activities connect through the economy.
For your first session, follow nearby quests and learn your character’s controls. You do not need a farm, a ship, or a complete equipment build to start.
How a normal session works
A quest gives you a task and a reward. Early quests introduce the world, guide you between settlements, and give your character experience and equipment.
Experience raises your character level. Higher levels give you access to more skills and equipment. Origins uses a character level cap of 55.
After the early quests, your next task depends on your interests:
| Activity | What you do | What you need to learn |
|---|---|---|
| Quests and combat | Complete objectives and fight monsters. | Targets, skills, equipment, and health. |
| Resource collection | Harvest plants and collect materials. | Labor costs and ownership. |
| Crafting | Use recipes and workbenches to make items. | Materials, labor, and proficiency. |
| Trade | Carry a trade pack to a merchant. | The route, the destination, and its risk. |
| Land and farms | Place a design in a permitted housing area. | Space, materials, permissions, and taxes. |
| Group play | Complete tasks with other players. | Party roles and shared plans. |
This table explains ArcheAge’s systems. Origins is pre-release, so some content still needs player tests and fixes.
Why labor matters
Labor is a resource that pays for many production actions. For example, a harvest or a crafting recipe can cost labor.
Your labor balance differs from your character’s health and mana. Combat uses health and mana. Many economic activities use labor.
Read the action or recipe before you spend labor. Check its cost, materials, and result. You can then choose whether to use the materials or sell them.
Proficiency measures experience in a production activity. It differs from your character level and your combat skillset levels.
Why trade creates risk
A trade pack is a physical load that your character carries. You must move it to a suitable merchant to complete that trade.
The route matters because some regions permit combat between players. A short route through a dangerous region can have more risk than a longer safe route.
Before your first trade, check the pack’s destination and the zone status. Ask another player to explain the route if you do not know it.
What PvE and PvP mean
PvE means player versus environment. It includes combat with monsters and other computer-controlled enemies.
PvP means player versus player. Your faction, the region, and its current status affect which players can attack you.
Some regions change between conflict and Peace. Peace applies attack protection, but valid duels and specific retaliation rules have exceptions. Read the zone status before you enter.
You can learn your first skills through nearby quests before you plan a trade route or enter conflict.
