Install and update
Using the launcher
This guide describes the ArcheAge Origins launcher. Use the Player guide button to open the guides in your default browser.
The button is also available before sign-in.
Sign in and retain your session
Use the username and password from your verified Origins account. The launcher only signs in current accounts.
Select Create an account before sign-in to open website registration in your default browser.
The launcher stays signed out until the Login service accepts your credentials. A wrong password does not retain credentials.
If the launcher shows Reset your password, select Open website. Sign in on the website with your current password. You must choose and confirm a different password before you can play. Then sign in to the launcher with your new password.
After a successful login, the launcher stores a refresh token in the system credential store:
| System | Credential store |
|---|---|
| Windows | Windows Credential Manager |
| Linux | An active Secret Service provider |
The launcher does not write your password or access token to its settings. When you start it again, the credential store can restore your session.
Select Sign out to remove the retained session.
If your previous launcher was older than 0.3.4, sign in and set your preferences again. The new Origins profile can reuse your game files.
On Linux, select a Steam-installed Proton for the new profile. The launcher prepares a new managed Proton prefix.
Select the client folder
The client status shows No client selected until you choose a client.
- Select Select game folder.
- Choose the client root that contains
bin32/archeage.exe. - On Linux, open Settings > Linux compatibility and select a Steam-installed Proton.
- On Linux, select Use Proton to save the choice.
The client root also contains game data, such as game/db/compact.sqlite3. Select the root folder, rather than its bin32 subfolder.
If you cancel the folder picker, the selection stays the same. If the launcher rejects a folder, it keeps the previous saved root.
See Install on Linux for the supported Proton packages.
Select Details beside Play, Update, or Select game folder. The dialog shows the full game folder, file status, and required content version.
Select Open Settings in that dialog to change the game folder or launcher preferences.
To change a saved folder, open Settings > Client installation and select Browse. You can also enter a path in Game folder, then select Use folder.
Theme and window settings
Select the sun or moon button at the top of the launcher. It changes between light and dark themes. The launcher keeps your choice after restart.
The Settings button beside your username opens launcher settings. You can also use Details > Open Settings.
Open Settings > Appearance and use Window title bar to choose the native title bar.
Understand the client status
The launcher compares your client files with the latest signed client release.
| Status | What it means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Play | The client matches the current signed release. | Select Play to start the game. |
| Update | The client matches a supported base or an older signed release. | Select Update to get the current content. |
| Repair | The launcher can safely correct a file mismatch. | Select Repair to restore the current content. |
| Unsupported client | The launcher cannot recognize the files or safely repair them. | Check the selected folder and read Unsupported client. |
Unsupported disables the primary actions. The launcher does not start the game with an unrecognized client state.
Select the question mark beside Unsupported client to open its explanation and the next steps in your browser.
Play gets a short-lived ticket for 1 use, then starts the game. The button shows Launching during this step.
Update and Repair use the same managed installer. Their progress covers the complete operation, from 0 to 100.
The buttons show Updating or Repairing until the operation ends.
Check all client files
Open Settings > Client installation and select Verify all files for a full archive check. This removes the local archive receipt and forces a complete archive hash.
A full hash can take longer than the usual client check. Wait for the progress result before you decide that an update stopped.
The current signed content keeps the native poem splash. It skips the later 24-second login cinema before the server list.
Update the launcher
Launcher updates and client updates are separate. Update and Repair change managed client content. Update and restart changes the launcher.
Since v0.3.0, the launcher checks for a signed launcher update at startup. To start another check, open Settings > Launcher update and select Check now.
- Install the first updater-capable launcher manually.
- Let the launcher check for a later release.
- Select Update and restart when an update is available.
Before the updater helper starts, the launcher checks the signed manifest and the archive hash.
The manifest signature checks application trust. It does not provide a Windows or Linux code signature.
Version 0.3.5 adds recovery after a forced close or power loss during an update. See What is new for the recovery limits.
Maintenance mode
If the Login API or signed manifest check fails, the launcher enters Maintenance. It disables Play and Update.
For a short Login or network outage, the launcher checks status about every 15 seconds. A healthy response can restore a retained session.
If no session exists, the launcher returns to sign-in. Other failures can need a direct fix. See Troubleshooting.
A second launcher window
A second launcher instance exits with an already-running message. It does not remove or damage the retained session.
Use the first window, or close it before you start the launcher again.
Remove the launcher
- Select Sign out if you also want to remove the retained session.
- Close the launcher.
- Delete the launcher folder.
- Remove any desktop entry you made.
The platform application-data folder keeps settings and logs until you remove them. On Linux, it also keeps the managed Proton prefix.
If you did not sign out, the credential store retains the session. Clear that session in the credential store if you need to remove it.
